Markus Huettel
About
Markus Huettel is a distinguished research professor and coastal oceanographer in the FSU Department of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science. His research focuses on biological and biogeochemical processes at the sea floor. His present work, integrating biological, chemical, and physical processes, addresses the cycling of matter in inner shelf sediments and the coastal ocean.
Huettel earned his Ph.D. from the University of Kiel in Germany in 1988, and then worked at the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology in Bremen, Germany. In 2003, he joined Florida State University.
Oceanography, Benthic ecology, ecology of coastal and shelf environments with emphasis on processes in the sediments and at the sediment-water interface
